Holistic Therapies

Our holistic therapies are centred around creating wellness using a range of treatments available. With a medical background underpinning all the work we do here at the BioMed Natural Health Clinic, we offer our clients expertise, experience and the benefit of many different practitioners’ skills.

Please take a look at the different treatments below for more information about them, or call us to discuss your situation so that we can work together to develop the treatment plan that is right for you, your lifestyle and, to some extent, your budget.

Acupuncture

Acupuncture is a form of traditional Chinese medicine which involves the insertion of very fine needles at key points (known as acupuncture points) into the body. Acupuncture is based on the Chinese belief that the human body is controlled by a life force known as Qi (pronounced ‘chee’). Qi flows through the body in channels, known as meridians. When your Qi is disturbed, or unbalanced, it can make you unwell.

Acupuncture aims to restore the balance of Qi, and helps it to run smoothly through your body. Western Medical Acupuncture derived from the above mentioned method and follows the western view and structure of dealing with health issues. A medical diagnosis has to be given by a GP or Consultant to enable the acupuncturist to apply a precise formula for the presenting condition.

The aim is to aid the body to self healing. It is the only form of acupuncture being able to be included into the present NHS system. Amount of treatment sessions required depends on the condition, severity and the respond of the patient’s body. An indication can be given by the practitioner but a minimum of 4 treatments is strongly advised. Combination therapies may be also recommended at the discretion of the therapist.

  • Single Session £50
  • 4 Sessions £180
  • 6 Sessions £250

Note: Members of health plans including LHF; HSA and BUPA health plans may claim towards the cost of acupuncture. Please refer to your membership pack for details. Your GP can refer you for acupuncture funded by the NHS, and it is worth discussing acupuncture with them if you believe it may help you.

Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy is a healing therapy using essential oils, these are plant hormones/essences and are extracted from many species of herbs and aromatic plants. The oils have many healing properties and when carefully blended can have a very positive effect on a person’s health and well being. Aromatherapy can be used in many different ways the most effective being through therapeutic massage when the oils are absorbed through the skin.

By using therapeutic massage this can benefit people in many ways, for stress relief, relaxation, relief of tension, time out from the demands of work and family life; soothing tired, aching muscles, improving circulation, aiding the removal of toxins and wastes from the body, increasing immunity, improving skin tone, texture and appearance as well as having an effect on many medical conditions.

Colonic Therapy

Colonic and Abdominal treatments involve massage to the stomach, descending and transcending colon with circular movements to stimulate, strengthen and tone the mucles of your colon and abdomen in general. The Illeocecal valve, between the small and large intestine is also massaged, which encourgages the movement of solid waste products from the small intestine to the colon for excretion, hence helping to remove toxins from the body in a regular and timely fashion.

Benefits include the reduction in bloating, constipation, relief from migraines and headaches, lower back pain, relief from abdominal fluid retention and flatulence, easing from Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) and Diverticulitis (none-acute), detoxification of the body and relief from some gynecological and heavy period problems, to name a few.

Before Treatment Advice: It is more comfortable to avoid eating a heavy meal less than an hour before treatment and to avoid drinking alocohol, other than drinking plenty of water before and after treatment there is nothing specific required before having an abdominal massage. Please advice your therapist if you are a carrying an IUD.

After Treatment Advice: Drink plenty of water during the rest of the day and eat a light healthy meal that evening. Some clients experience tiredness and feel dehydrated after treatment, which is nothing to be concerned about, it is just the body re-adjusting itself. If possible restrict the amount of caffeine and alcohol consumed for the rest of the day and avoid nicotine and other stimulants.

Come and enjoy a relaxing abdominal massage which will help either soothe a nervous tummy or stimulate a sluggish colon, the benefits are many and varied, including the release of physical and emotional congestion whilere-establishing pelvic health.

Reflexology, Head Massage & Ear Candles

Reflexology

Reflexology involves a method of treatment using massage to reflex areas found in the feet and the hands. Most commonly, the feet are used as the areas to be treated. In the feet, there are reflex areas corresponding to all the parts of the body and these areas are arranged in such a way as to form a map of the body in the feet with the right foot corresponding to the right side of the body and the left foot corresponding to the left side of the body. By having the whole body represented in the feet, the method offers a means of treating the whole body and of treating the body as a whole. This latter point is an important factor of a natural therapy and allows not only symptoms to be treated but also the causes of symptoms.

Indian Head Massage

Excellent de-stressing treatment and ideal for relieving tension in neck and shoulder.

Thermo – Auricular Therapy

Hopi ear candles are named after the Native American tribe who first introduced this gentle therapy to the West. The Hopi nation is renowned for their extensive knowledge of healing and their spiritual lifestyle. The translation of the word Hopi means “peaceful ones”. Ear candles are used widely throughout North America and Asia and although the current treatment has come to us from the Hopi tribe, the use of ear candles to treat ea rproblems has been known for centuries, having been used by the Egyptians, Romans and Greeks.

I have been to see Claudia a few times now and what impresses me most is how she always goes the extra mile. Last time I went I had texted her at 8pm and she managed to see me at 10am the following morning which is now unheard of on the NHS. Her knowledge of alternative therapies is second to none and I would advise you all to put anyone you know with twinges, aches and pains or indeed any medical condition in touch with her to see how she can help.
