In a healthful person a balanced diet should supply the body with sufficient nutrients to carry out routine tasks…

…build muscle, repair body tissue, prevent infection and maintain a healthy weight. However, it is well known that modern food processing often does not provide a sufficiently balanced intake of the different nutrients essential in maintaining and regulating the wellbeing of our body.

In addition, when the body’s systems are under stress and very likely deficient in a number of nutrients, supplements play a vital role in supporting and enhancing essential functions of the body. Vitamins, minerals, essential fatty acids, phytochemicals, and more enrich the body’s internal environment to fortify cellular protection, repair and regeneration, and strengthen the immune system. There is a wide range of supplements available. Below is an example of the supplements BioMed would recommend specifically for the treatment of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome/ME and Fibromyalgia.

  • Eskimo®-3 Brainsharp Fish Oil Capsules

Multivitamins

In theory, we should be able to get all of our nutrients from our diet. But in today’s society, where most of our food is either processed or washed and cleaned, we are missing many essential nutrients we used to get from the soil, so even the healthiest eaters might not be getting all of the nutrients they need. That’s why taking a good multivitamin every day is so important.

Essential Fatty Acids

Research shows that people with CFS/ME and FMS have imbalanced levels of essential fatty acids (omega-3s and omega-6s), which may contribute to symptoms such as fatigue and body aches.

The body needs to get essential fatty acids through nutrition because it cannot manufacture them on its own.

B12

People with CFS show reduced methylation of some immune cells, a process that plays a role in gene expression. Vitamin B12 and folic acid both promote methylation of cells.

Coenzyme Q10

Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) is a compound found naturally in the mitochondria, the energy-producing center of our cells. CoQ10 is involved in the production of ATP, the main energy source of body cells. It has been shown that people with CFS/Me and FMS are likely to be deficient in CoQ10, and the lower its level in their system, the more debilitating the symptoms.

Magnesium

Research suggest that about 80 percent of adults suffer from a magnesium deficiency? Magnesium plays a critical role in many functions in the body, including nerve transmission, muscle contraction, energy production, bone and cell production and more.

Vitamin D

helps with the absorption of calcium and phosphorus into our blood stream. Vitamin D deficiency can reduce your ability to heal from infections and can be a risk factor in developing an autoimmune disease.

Probiotics

are living micro-organisms that promote good gut health, which can strengthen your immune system, improve digestion, reduce your chances of getting infections and help cure irritable bowel disease.

Vitamin C

Vitamin C is essential to many metabolic systems in the body, particularly the immune system. It promotes the synthesis of collagen which is critical for the strength of bones, muscles, and tendons. Also, the adrenal glands, which can be under-functioning in individuals suffering from CFS/ME and FMS need Vitamin C to help synthesize the amino acid tyrosine to dopamine and ultimately adrenalin. This is why Vitamin C is considered a mood-enhancing vitamin.
